To the North West of Jerusalem is Ramot also known as Ramot Alon, it is the largest neighbourhood in Jerusalem made up of 5 sub neighbourhoods.

For many years it was often considered outside of Jerusalem but with the advent of better roads, more frequent bus lines and the eventual extension of the Light Rail which will have 4 stops in the neighbourhoods, it is now very much considered a green suburb of the city.

Due to the fact that it was once considered out of the city it has a lot of facilities that are often only found in cities and not suburbs of cities in Israel. There is a very large shopping mall which includes multiple restaurants, shops, post office, banks, health care and dental clinics. There are also multiple schools in the area catering to different stripes and colours of Israelis, a number of municipal centres, many shuls and two large sports centres which both have swimming pools; one of which is in a newer part of Ramot so is very modern.

When talking about a Jerusalem neighbourhood, its necessary to talk about the religious make-up of the area; although Ramot these days has a large Ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) community there are also many modern orthodox, traditional and secular residents which is largely but not exclusively dependent on the different neighbourhoods. However, although there is a mix of people, it is a very pleasant place to live where different segments of society are respectufl and friendly with one another.

One of the things that makes Ramot special in my view (having moved here a year ago) is that it has an out of town feel whilst being only a twenty minute bus ride (ten to fifteen minutes by car) from the centre of town; and the light rail is projected to cut that down to seven minutes. As I already mentioned though since there are so many facilities here, one does not need to make that journey daily so its really the best of both worlds.

There is a variety of housing in Ramot which cannot be said for all neighbourhoods in Jerusalem where often apartment buildings are the only real estate avaialble. There are older and new apartment buildings, some new upscale projects being currently under constructiion, but in addition to this in Ramot B, C and 06 there are also tree lined leafy streets with attached cottages, semi detached houses and detached villas which is not so common for Jerusalem.

Due to the fact that many Jews outside of Israel live in private homes, Ramot is fast becoming more and more populated by Chutznik (a phrase used for those of us who werent born here) families from other neighbourhoods accross the city. The influx of these families who originate from the US, England, France and other European countries has started to and will have more and more of an imprint on the sociable norms, values and facilites here as it gathers pace.

I personally value to the ability to have a more spacious home in an area with an abundance of local facilities and within close proximity to all that Jerusalem has to offer. Since there is a lack of private housing available in Jerusalem which is becoming more and more sparse and unaffordable I believe that Ramot prices which have risen considerably over the last 3 or 4 years will continue to leap higher over the next few years making this both a great place to live and also a fantastic investmen.

We would be happy to help find you the house of your dreams in this peaceful beautiful neighbourhood when you are ready!
